Distribution Safety Oversight (1099 Independent Contractor)

(Field-Based | Regional Travel)

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced distribution professionals to provide independent third-party safety oversight for ongoing utility construction and maintenance operations.

This role is designed for professionals who understand distribution work at a technical level and can engage crews constructively while maintaining authority and independence. Oversight professionals will provide behavioral-based observations, document findings using advanced technology platforms to identify leading indicators and support continuous safety performance improvement.

Required Experience

  • Minimum ten (10) years as a distribution journeyman lineworker
  • Experience in the operation of overhead and/or underground distribution systems
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Protective grounding concepts and standards
    • Switching, tagging, and clearance procedures
    • Minimum Approach Distances (MAD)
      • Insulate and Isolate procedures
    • Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
    • Personal Protective Equipment standards
    • Establishing and maintaining safe work zones
      • Federal MUTCD Regulations
    • Hydration, fatigue, and heat stress mitigation
    • OSHA 29 CFR 1910 General industry and applicable electrical standards

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured safety observations on distribution job sites
  • Provide real-time behavioral feedback to line crews
  • Identify and document safe work practices and at-risk behaviors
  • Facilitate positive engagement reinforcing safe execution
  • Exercise stop-work authority when imminent hazards exist
  • Maintain professional neutrality and objectivity

Work Environment

  • Outdoor field conditions in varied climates and terrain
  • Urban, rural, and high-traffic environments
  • Fast-paced utility construction environments
  • Travel may be required depending on client location

 

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently
  • Strong written documentation skills
  • Professional presence and communication capability

Preferred Certifications

  • OSHA 10/30 (Construction)
  • CPR / First Aid / AED
  • CUSP
